Where do I start! What a crazy whirlwind the past two weeks have been. I know many people don’t know what happened. I wanted to post this for people who have been asking questions.
On Tuesday, October 26, we recieved an email from Facebook that said this:
” We have removed or disabled access to the following content that you have posted on Facebook because we received a notice from a third party that the content infringes or otherwise violates their rights: [Page: Fleurty Girl] ”
<br>
Immediately after reading this email, we lost access to our Facebook page. My heart sank. I remember thinking, “You have GOT to be kidding me!” So, I emailed Facebook back immediately and the next day received an email that said:
“Hi Lauren,
Thanks for your email. As you know, we received a claim of alleged rights infringement regarding the removed content. Per Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, users are prohibited from posting infringing content on the site.
If you believe that we have made a mistake in removing this content, then please contact the complaining party directly with the following information to resolve your issue:
Notice #: [210656714]
Contact Information:
Name – [Steve Monistere]
Email – [steve@whodat.com]
If both parties agree to restore the reported content, please ask the complaining party to contact us via email with a copy of the agreement so that we can refer to the original issue. We will not be able to restore this content to Facebook unless we receive explicit notice of consent from the complaining party. ”
So, there you have it. That was who reported us for intellectual property infringement and thus causing our page to be disabled. And in that last paragraph, it said we had to get consent from the “complaining party” to have our page restored. Oh, man. How in the heck was I supposed to make THAT happen?
A few days later, our attorney, Ernie, sent a letter to Facebook headquarters explaining the situation. Then, we heard this from Facebook a few days after the letter arrived:
“Hi Ernest,
We have received your letter regarding notice 210656714 and we are looking into this matter. We will respond with additional details soon.
Thanks for contacting Facebook.”
That email was four days ago. Tonight at around 9pm, I checked to see if our page was back up, just as I’ve been doing every few hours over the past two weeks. I saw a blank page instead of getting redirected back to my home page. I knew something was up. After a few minutes, the status update box appeared on the blank page. Was it really happening? So, I posted an update and within seconds I was getting responses back from people. Our page was finally back up!
I am hoping that we get an explanation about what happened. I am thankful for Facebook getting our page up and running again in just a few days after receiving our letter. It’s a WIN!
